Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar announced that the DPWH Regional Office 1 will be closing this weekend a section of the Manila North Road (MNR) in San Fernando City, La Union due to road upgrading works.

Based on a report submitted to Secretary Villar, the DPWH Regional Office 1 (DPWH Region 1) will close a section of the Manila North Road (MNR) in front of the ongoing Robinsons Place mall in San Fernando City on Saturday, August 8 at 9PM until Monday, August 10 at 9AM.

According to Regional Director Ronnel Tan, the excavation works to install high-density polyethylene pipes for the cross drainage will require road closure along the road section as part of the DPWH's construction, upgrading, and rehabilitation project along the MNR.

Warning signs and barricades are installed along the affected section.

Motorists are advised by the DPWH to use the designated alternate routes for going further north towards Laoag or south towards Manila.

Manila-bound motorists from Laoag City in Ilocos Norte can take the following routes: San Fernando City Bypass Road (Diversion Road) to MNR; MNR to Mabini Street to Pennsylvania Avenue to MNR; and, MNR to Mabini Street to San Vicente Road to MNR.

Meanwhile, those going north to Laoag City from Manila can use as an alternative the following routes: MNR to San Fernando City Bypass Road (Diversion Road), MNR to Pennsylvania Avenue to Mabini Street to MNR, and MNR to San Vicente Road to Mabini Street to MNR.
