The Department of Public Works Highways (DPWH) has completed the concreting of a two-lane road that now aids residents of Barangay Sinai, Sergio Osmeña, Zamboanga del Norte.
"A PHP20 million farm-to-market road is now being utilized by locals, especially farmers who no longer have to endure bumby, muddy or dusty road when going to neighboring trading centers. This road concreting project has reduced transportation cost and minimized post-harvest losses of vegetable farmers in this area," said Secretary Mark Villar.
Barangay Sinai is known as the vegetable bowl of Zamboanga del Norte and produces carrots, tomatoes, bananas, squash, and vegetable pears.
The road also paved way for locals' better access to neighboring towns that offer basic social services lacking in remote rural areas such as employment, health, higher education.
"What used to be a rough road took residents 15 to 20 minutes of travel time, this is now reduced to only five minutes with the paved road," added Secretary Villar.
DPWH Zamboanga del Norte Third District Engineering Office implemented the FMR project which is a two-lane concrete road stretching 806 meters.
