The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) will remain open to the public this weekend as Typhoon Rolly approaches.
In an announcement, the MRT-3 said its scheduled shutdown from Saturday to Monday would be deferred, with no date yet on when it would proceed with the maintenance shutdown.
"Ito ay upang ma-protektahan ang mga manggagawa ng MRT-3 na magiging bahagi ng mga gagawing aktibidad sa mga nasabing petsa (This is to protect MRT-3 workers who will have to work during the said days)," the MRT-3 said.
It noted that MRT-3 personnel were scheduled to fix 34.5-kilovolt alternating current switch gears at the MRT-3 North Avenue depot and turnouts--used to switch trains from one track to another--at the Taft Avenue station.
The weather bureau earlier forecast 'Rolly' to make landfall over the Central Luzon--Quezon area on Sunday or Monday, at a peak intensity of 165 to 185kph.
Earlier, the MRT-3 announced the temporary shutdown as part of the 'massive rehabilitation and maintenance' being conducted by its maintenance provider, Japanese contractor Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Another weekend shutdown was scheduled on November 14 to 15 to enable Sumitomo to perform other maintenance works, such as rail destressing, rerailing, turnouts replacement, resurfacing, rail profile grinding, ballasting, and tamping.
